I participated in Wordpress Hackathons. People who volunteer are divided into groups with specific digital roles. We have one day to create or redesign a new site for a charity.

My Role: Digital Designer
Wordpress and Wildlife Act logos

This project was for the WildLife Act. Their aim was to create awareness for endangered wildlife, namely rhinos. They also needed to grow support for the treatment of injured animals and education in rural areas.

strategy.

My role as a digital designer was to create effective call-to-actions to increase engagement.

I created visuals that superimposed the WildLife Act logo (an eye) onto illustrations of animals and a person to convey the concept that we are all connected.

outcome.

The client was happy with how I interpreted the concept. The integration of their brand with the animals that they are raising funds for reached the user in an effective way.

what they said.

I was always very impressed with Colleen’s professional behavior while she was under a lot of pressure to timeously deliver. Equally impressive is Colleen’s willingness to learn new things and to enhance her capabilities even in technical areas not necessarily connected to the core role. Colleen thrives best in an environment which is both challenging and rewarding, be it in a team or on isolated a project.

Colleen is a dedicated and thorough designer who does not give up until she has solved the problem. Her ability to quietly force ahead under pressure always impressed me. The complexity of the tasks and requirements increased and Colleen stepped up to the plate every time, which gave her excellent experience in honing her coding skills.
